A fantasy date Seated Liberty Dollar that is far too light with lots of die cracks and tooling marks.

The immediate tipoff is that this is a fantasy date. No 1847 Seated Liberty Dollars were minted in New Orleans. You’ll also notice there is a big die crack on the 8, and all of the tooling marks (that look like polishing marks) around the mint mark.

There is also a die crack between two of the eastern stars on the obverse.

Finally, this specimen is in medal alignment, rather than the proper coin alignment. Place your thumb at 6 o’clock and your forefinger at 12 o’clock and spin the coin and you will notice that both sides are “up.”
